Orchestra
Rowe Middle School (Beginning) Prelude Orchestra
This ensemble welcomes students who are picking up a violin, viola, cello, or bass for the very first time—no prior experience needed. Throughout the year, students will learn how to hold and care for their instrument, create a clear tone, keep a steady beat, and read basic music. Curriculum will emphasize building solid habits, exploring new skills at a comfortable pace, and enjoying the process of making music.
Class activities include guided practice, simple ensemble pieces, introductory note reading, and games that reinforce listening and coordination. Students learn how to play together, follow the conductor, and support their classmates as they grow. Concerts are required, giving students exciting opportunities to showcase their progress.
The goal of this course is to help every student discover confidence, curiosity, and joy through their first orchestral experiences.
Rowe Middle School (INT/ADV) Sinfonietta Orchestra
This ensemble is for students with at least one year of experience who are ready to build on their foundational skills on their string instrument. Students will strengthen posture, tone quality, pitch accuracy, and rhythmic precision while developing confidence as independent players and ensemble musicians. Instruction emphasizes music literacy, expressive interpretation, and effective performance techniques.
Lessons include instrument care, sound production, playing in tune and in time, ensemble awareness, and fluent music reading. Students learn to listen, collaborate, and lead within their sections as they experience the excitement of making music together. Concert participation is required, and students will share their progress at performances throughout the year.
Our goal is for every student to grow as a musician and enjoy making music—both individually and as part of a team.
*** All orchestra students are responsible for attaining concert attire: black pants, black socks, and black shoes. They must purchase a Rowe MS Music Department polo shirt ($15.00) for casual performances. For festivals and formal concerts, students are required to wear a white long-sleeved shirt, black tie, black dress pants, black socks, and black shoes.
